Endodontics

Endondontics or root canal treatment is the procedure to save  teeth whose internal nerve tissue has been damaged by decay, infection or trauma. The doctors at ADT Dental routinely perform this procedure. However, for more complicated cases, such as for a tooth that has had a previous root canal, we generally refer to one of the many endodontists (root canal specialists)  with whom we consult.

A common misconception is that a root canal is a painful procedure. Actually, root canals are similar to having a cavity filled, producing minimal pain.

Common symptoms that indicate the need for endodontic treatment:

  • Severe sensitivity to hot and cold food or liquids
  • Chipped or broken tooth
  • Swelling or tenderness around a tooth
  • Severe tooth pain
  • Persistent sensitivity to biting pressure

Common causes  of endodontic treatment:

  • A history of trauma to a tooth
  • Extensive dental decay
  • Repeated dental procedures on a tooth

Please contact our office for an evaluation if you experience any of the symptoms above.
