- Giving back to the community is such an important
part of the mission of ADT Dental that Dr. Adele Della Torre ended up extracting teeth in the middle of the Minneapolis Convention
center in December 2006. How did that come about? Dr. Della Torre has been a long-time advocate for affordable
housing. When Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis staff wondered if dentistry could be part of their quarterly
one-day service event called Project Homeless Connect, they invited Dr. Della Torre to come up with a plan
to provide dental services in the Convention Center at their next event.
Dr. Della Torre was able to secure
the donation of mobile clinics from Apple Tree Dental as well as put together a volunteer staff of dental professionals.
She oversaw the dental clinic where homeless people were screened or treated as part of Project Homeless Connect. Many
of the patients were transferred to ADT Dental Clinic, where Dr. Ottavi, Dr. Major and staff continued their care throughout
the day. Over 42 homeless patients received free dental care. ADT Dental is committed to continue to provide this
type of outreach to the community.
- ADT Dental has been participating in the
annual Give Kids A Smile program since its inception. Give Kids A Smile serves the dual
purpose of helping children receive dental treatment and raising the awareness that changes in our health care system must
be made to provide better access to care for uninsured children. During this event, ADT Dental provides free dental care to
local children, including preventive, restorative and educational services. This important event has helped numerous children
feel better and learn to make healthier choices.
- Dr. Rachel Major works one day a week at
Children’s Dental Services, a clinic dedicated to improving the oral health of children from families with low incomes
by providing accessible dental treatment and education. The clinic provides a wide variety of services, including same-day
emergency treatment and nitrous oxide analgesia for fearful children.
